The education of our students has always been interwoven into the fabric of Fontana. When our students succeed, we as a community succeed. This is the reason the City has taken a proactive approach to providing students enrichment opportunities at the City of Fontana, as well as collaborating with businesses to prepare students for their future after graduation.

Work/Intern at the City - Creating future city leaders

S.T.E.M. - Creating tomorrow's innovators

The City offers classes such as Video Game Design and Computer Coding. Classes can be found here. The Information Technology Department also frequently visits local schools to discuss a career in IT.

Public Safety - Creating safer communities

Explorer Academy. A Police Explorer is a young adult who has a desire to learn about law enforcement as a career through firsthand experience. An Explorer has the opportunity to learn all aspects and functions of the Police Department. The program offers experience in the records unit, front desk, detective unit, traffic enforcement, and a patrol officer's function through the ride-along program.

Art and Music - Creating creative thinkers

The Community Services Department oversees classes such as:

  • Arts - Pottery, Drawing, Theater, Theatrical Lighting and Sound, Imagination Studio
  • Music - Guitar, Piano, Choreography and Voice Instruction

Character Development - Creating leadership skills

The Fontana Leadership Intervention Program (FLIP) is a joint effort with the Fontana Unified School District. FLIP offers up to 140 high school students a year social services and mentoring to help them to improve their grades to graduate. The program has received the prestigious Helen Putnam Award from the League of California Cities for transforming young lives.

The Mayor's Youth Advisory Council (MYAC).is a group of teens dedicated to improving their City by creating programs that appeal to middle school and high school students. It gives participants the opportunity to have fun, make new friends and get involved in their Community. Members have a chance to get hands-on experience in local government by working with the City Council while learning leadership and organizational skills.


Businesses - Creating future entrepreneurs

The City offers classes such as Marketing 101, Developing Business Strategies, Writing a Business Plan, and Design Your Best Life. Classes can be found here.

Healthy Living - Creating active lifestyles 

Healthy Fontana is a community-based and award-winning program that promotes a healthy lifestyle with an emphasis on four core components: nutrition, active living, smart growth and community partnerships. Healthy Fontana has been providing a wide variety of educational programs, resources and events, including an annual Let’s Move on the Trail event, Fontana Walks!, after-school activities, summer programs, Healthy Jr. Chef cooking classes, “For the Health of It” newsletter, and even a cooking show called “Eat Healthy, Fontana!”
